How did you and your husband meet?

Joe and I met online through the wonders of technology :) I had moved to NYC just a few weeks before and decided to give online dating a shot. We chatted for a week or two before meeting in person, then had an incredible first date. We even used how we met a little bit on our wedding by hanging a banner that showed all of the messages we sent back and forth to each other before meeting! It's so funny to look back and actually read the first things we connected over.

How did he pop the question? Were you surprised?

He asked me to marry him at home one Friday night after we cooked dinner - one of our favorite things to do together. It was a long weekend in the dead of winter and he had planned a surprise trip to Newport, RI for us to leave for the next morning to celebrate. We had talked about marriage a lot and had looked at rings a couple of months earlier, so I knew the question was coming at some point soon...but I was very surprised when it actually happened!

Did you have a specific theme in mind for your wedding?

We wanted our wedding to be intimate and romantic, but also a fun dance party with all of our friends and family. We selected a venue that was an old locomotive-building brick warehouse right on the ocean, so we wanted to offset that unique industrial feel of the warehouse with romantic and soft neutrals for colors, and an intimate ceremony. So our colors were blush pink, cream, and dark grey, with some rose gold accents. Our ceremony was also held in the same space, with my uncle performing. We had our moms do a reading together, as well as a couple of poems read by two close friends, and both my parents walked me down the aisle to Adele's "Make You Feel My Love", performed by an incredible singer, cellist and pianist. And then the dance party started!

Where did you tie the knot?

Right near my hometown in Portland, Maine.

What made you choose AMY O for your special day?

My wedding dress was backless and when I first tried it on, the bridal consultant suggested I try a back necklace on and I fell in love with the look of it.The dress was fairly simple otherwise, with just some lack around the neckline, shoulders and train, so I thought some extra sparkle from a back necklace would be the perfect addition. I found the AMY O piece I ended up selecting on Etsy and loved how delicate and romantic it was. I also really liked how it had the beautiful small jewel in the front, and the thin chain that wrapped around my midsection to prevent the back jewel from spinning or moving around too much.

What was one of the most memorable moments from your wedding day?

Our first look! We were both on the fence about whether we wanted to have one or not, but our photographer suggested it and we were so thrilled we ended up having one. Having those first few minutes together, just the two of us, was incredibly special and is one of my favorite moments from the day to look back on.

Did you go on a honeymoon? If so, where to?

We spent a few days right after our wedding back in Newport, where we had celebrated our engagement, on our drive back home from Maine. And about six months later we went to Thailand for our honeymoon.

Any advice for future brides?

Right after Joe and I got engaged, we made a list of the top 3 most important things to us for our day, and the 3 least important things. This really helped us focus our energy, time and definitely our budget on the items that meant the most to us, and not get bogged down in the details (or the cost) of the other items. We came back to both of these lists later on when we were in the thick of planning to refocus ourselves on how we really wanted our day to go. It's so easy to get wrapped up the details of the day and have those start to seem like the priority. As much as possible, try to remind yourself that the day is about celebrating you and your partner, the love you have for each other, and your families coming together. Because when it all comes down to it, you're getting to marry your best friend and that by itself is so incredible!
