Today we'll be starting a new feature here on the Amy O. blog where we share real Amy O. brides' wedding stories. Meet Maggie, the adorable blogger behind Peekaboo Peonies, and her new husband Mike. Mike and Maggie celebrated their gorgeous fall wedding in Pennsylvania. Keep on reading to see more of this rustic cranberry and blush wedding.
How did you and your husband meet?
We met in 6th grade, at our after school Catholic program. We absolutely hated each other!
How did he pop the question? Were you surprised?
Mike took me to Cape May and walked me blindfolded up to the beach. I was blindfolded because it was our nine year anniversary and he was supposed to plan a trip to Boston. Of course I figured out we weren’t in Boston, and was trying my best not to be disappointed. When he walked me up to the beach, I thought he was going to take the blindfold off and say “Surprise! Here’s your vacation!” That’s something he would do. But instead he slipped the ring on my finger. I was totally surprised, I had absolutely no idea it was happening! I got over Boston very quickly!
Did you have a specific theme in mind for your wedding?
I wanted a rustic fall wedding and a color scheme of cranberry, navy, eggplant and blush. I wanted the mood to be very elegant and romantic. We had a small wedding <100 and it was the perfect size.
Where did you tie the knot?
We married in the church where we first met, St. Agnes in West Chester, PA. Our reception was at a barn-styled hall called The High Point in Malvern, PA.
What made you choose AMY O for your special day?
I bought a beautiful backless Katie May dress. It had been my dream dress for two years prior to my wedding. I knew I wanted a long back necklace, and through Pinterest I found AMY O! I drove Gina crazy with designing a piece specifically for me, and she did not disappoint! My necklace (and earrings) were absolutely stunning on my wedding day.
What was one of the most memorable moments from your wedding day?
My husband owns a 1954 Mercedes convertible, which he drove in our wedding. For 20 minutes we were alone in the car driving from our ceremony to our reception and we were together just the two of us. It was so nice to be able to spend some time alone on our wedding day, I recommend sneaking away if you can!
Did you go on a honeymoon? If so, where to?
We went to Belize and stayed at Almond Beach resort. It was amazing, we had a cabana 10 feet from the water. It was romantic, private, and I couldn’t have asked for more.
Any advice for future brides?
1) Listen to what you and your partner wants, and put everyone else’s opinions out of your head.
2) Your ceremony is going to fly by so fast, take a second to let out a deep breath, and reset so you can really be in the moment.
3) Take the dance lessons if you even think you need them! I still cringe when I think about our first dance, we were just moving in a giant circle!
4) Have fun it’s only one day and it flies by!
