Amy O. Bride: Amber's Tropical Romance Ceremony

Fashion & Lifestyle Blogger Amber, and her new husband Tyler had the most amazing tropical wedding! From bright colored tropical flowers to the beautiful backdrops of Maui, this wedding was one to remember.
How did you and your husband meet?
We met in college at the University of Nevada, Reno. We were both sophomores when we met at a fraternity social. I was a member of the sorority, Tri Delta and Tyler was a member of the fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha. I had seen him on campus before with mutual friends and I thought he was so cute! I approached him at the social and introduced myself. I had a spring formal dance the next night and dumped my current date the next day and asked Tyler to go with me last minute. He said yes and the rest is history.
How did he pop the question? Were you surprised?
Tyler proposed to me on my birthday April 1, 2016. My family flew out from Reno for the weekend. My mom and I are very close so I didn’t really think anything out of the ordinary of her coming to visit for my birthday. We had dinner plans for about a month at my favorite restaurant with both of our families to attend. After dinner, they brought out dessert, which was a ginormous fortune cookie covered in chocolate. I thought it was just a special dessert for me from the restaurant because it was my birthday. Then everyone stood up around me as I opened it and as I read the fortune out loud, I looked down at Tyler (he was on one knee) and the fortune read “Happy birthday Amber! Will you marry me?” As I read it out loud, you could hear the excitement in my voice! I couldn’t imagine a more sincere and sweet proposal!
Where did you tie the knot?
My husband and I have a huge love for the ocean so we knew we wanted to get married with our toes in the sand on the edge of the ocean. We got married in Ironwoods Beach (Oneloa Beach) in Maui, Hawaii. We had our reception at Merriman’s Kapalua on the edge of the ocean afterwards.
Did you have a specific theme in mind for your wedding?
Yes, my husband and I both wanted a tropical yet romantic beach wedding! I wanted tropical flowers that were elegant and romantic. I wanted tropical greenery mixed with coral and blush florals. For the greenery we used the following tropical leafs: fan palm leaf, areca palm, banana leaf, and split leaf philodendrom, aralia leaf, and the fern frond. I chose blush, gold and coral to be our main colors. As far as flowers we had the following: coral peonies, sunset garden roses, tinted hydrangea, carnations. We had pineapples filled with my favorite florals for the tablescape and they were stunning!

Wedding Dress Designer & Style?
My wedding dress designer was Katie May. I was wearing the Poipu dress - a low back, vintage lace dress with scalloped lace on the bottom and lace straps. My veil was by BHLDN.
What made you choose AMY O for your special day?
The jewelry was perfect for my dress! I always imagined a low back dress with a necklace that dangled against my lower back, and this is the exact style Amy O Bridal offered. I also knew I wanted rose gold accessories. I looked on Etsy, but the quality of Amy O was impeccable! I got the tear drop pendant with matching earrings.
What was one of the most memorable moments from your wedding day?
  • Our vows- Our vows are something I’ll never forget! We both had really great vows straight from the heart. We were both crying when we read them out loud to one another. I saved them on vow books we had written them on for the ceremony. My favorite part of our wedding video are the vows and hearing the emotion in our voices as we read them.
  • Our first look- This was another very memorable and special moment between my husband and I. I really recommend a first look. It was our time away from everyone else to spend a few intimate moments together before the ceremony. We both cried when we saw each other for the first time. After our first look we took a private car to the ceremony site, which was so special. It gave us time to soak in this most special time in our lives together.
  • Ceremony to honor our loved ones- We were able to create a ceremony that was unique and tailored to our request. It was very important for my husband and I to honor our loved ones who had passed onto heaven and who were there in spirit. We threw rose petals into the ocean and said a special prayer. Then all of our friends and family grabbed a handful of flowers to honor someone they were missing that was near and dear to their hearts. It was a beautiful ceremony.
Did you go on a honeymoon? If so, where to?
It was nice having our wedding in Maui because it created somewhat of a vacation and small honeymoon for us after the ceremony. Our families left the day after the wedding and we had several days just us two in Maui. We took a flight straight from Maui to Disneyland a couple of days after the wedding. But we just got back from our official honeymoon last week! We took an 11 day Royal Caribbean Cruise to the Southern Caribbean’s ABC islands. We hit St. Lucia, Antigua, Barbados, Curacao, and Aruba. It was so romantic and we didn’t have WiFi either so it was just the two of us.
Any advice for future brides?
Yes! I highly recommend getting a videographer! My husband did not want to spend the money and he didn’t think we were ever going to watch the video. As soon as we received the video in our email several months later, he realized how special it was! We both highly prioritized photography for our wedding day and I always wanted a videographer. Both of these are so important for your wedding day, because photos and videos are the one way to relive the most important and special day of your lives together. As soon as we watched our video we both began to cry and we were able to relive that moment. We were able to share it with our family who could not be at our wedding. We can’t wait to show it to our children one day!
The second thing I recommend to brides is looking into having a small intimate wedding like ours. It was so nice just to have the utmost important people in our lives there with us. Yes it was small, but it meant so much more to us that way. And everyone who attended our wedding got a vacation out of it, which was a plus. Both of our families had never been to Maui and we hadn’t ever been either.
